The build-up to the 2013 Investec Derby Festival begins in
earnest this week, with the announcement on Thursday (March 7) of the
three-year-olds going forward for the Investec Derby.
The premier Classic and Britain's richest race, with prize
money of £1,325,000, is run over a mile and a half at Epsom Downs on
Saturday, June 1.
This will be the first in a series of announcements in
the next five weeks concerning entries for the three Group One races
during the Investec Derby Festival (Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1).
Initial entries for the premier fillies' Classic, the
Investec Oaks, staged over the same course and distance on Investec
Ladies Day, Friday, May 31, are released on Thursday, March 14 (after
closing at noon on Tuesday, March 12).
Following a highly successful switch in 2012, the Investec
Coronation Cup, for four-year-olds and above, will again be run on
Investec Derby Day, Saturday June 1. Entries for the mile and a half
contest are revealed on Wednesday, April 3 (after closing at noon on
Tuesday, April 2).
Details of the three-year-olds added at the second entry
stage for the Investec Derby will be made known on Thursday, April 11.
Horses not entered in the Classic at the initial yearling entry stage in
December, 2011, can be added at a cost of £8,000 by noon on Tuesday,
April 9.
