AT THE RACES AND THE SHANGHAI RACE CLUB MAKE HISTORY AS THEY COMMENCE LIVE STREAMING OF ATR IN MAINLAND CHINA

ASCOT'S GOLD CUP AND THE CURRAGH'S DUBAI DUTY FREE IRISH DERBY TAKE CENTRE STAGE

At The RacesAt The Races and the Shanghai Race Club, Mainland China's legendary horseracing brand, confirmed today that they have partnered with the territory's leading online streaming platform, PPTV, to launch the first ever horseracing channel to be streamed live in China.

The racing channel named Pao Ma - from the sound of the Chinese characters meaning "horseracing" - officially launched live British racing on the 20th June with coverage of Royal Ascot's Gold Cup as the inaugural race.

This will be followed this Saturday with the official launch of live Irish racing. The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, to be run at The Curragh, will be the inaugural race.

More details on the channel can be found at www.paoma.com.

The new service is available on a free to register subscription basis to residents of Mainland China and the content has been tailored by ATR to the Chinese market as a live sports channel with all betting references removed.

ATR has also been asked by the Shanghai Race Club to source, on its behalf, other international horseracing content in due course.

The Shanghai Race Club, first established in 1862, is a private club for Mainland China's new and existing racehorse owners. The Club's services and technology makes it simpler for people in Mainland China to try, buy and manage a racehorse based in Great Britain or Ireland.

Byron Constable, Chairman, Shanghai Race Club, said: "Now anyone in Mainland China can engage in the pleasure of watching the finest racehorses compete for some highly treasured trophies.

"The audience we can reach in China will undoubtedly accelerate horseracing towards becoming the world's most watched sport and we are pleased that ATR's UK and Irish racecourse partners will be the immediate beneficiaries of the distribution platform we are opening up."

Matthew Imi, Chief Executive, At The Races, said: "We are delighted to have successfully launched our service with the Shanghai Race Club and PPTV, thereby making it available to a large and important market with significant potential for British and Irish racecourses, owners and breeders.

"I am particularly pleased to have launched with such prestigious races as the Gold Cup and the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby and would like to congratulate both Ascot and the Curragh on being the first British and Irish racecourses respectively whose racing has been made available to the residents of Mainland China.

"We very much look forward to extending our relationship with the Shanghai Race Club and are speaking now with our international colleagues with a view to introducing additional racing into the service."

Shanghai Race Club

The Shanghai Race Club, first established by the British in Shanghai during 1862, was the catalyst behind the first generation of famous racing names to emerge from Mainland China. The Club now supports a new generation of racehorse owners in their pursuit of the world's most coveted racing trophies.

With this spirit in mind The Club hosts trophy parties to celebrate "live" the winning of each of the world's 8 most sought after racing trophies. These private parties are held in the appointed club house, a heritage estate in downtown Shanghai built by Eric Moller - one of the earliest members of the Shanghai Race Club. Members are invited to attend the Club's trophy parties and meet other members of the racing society.

During the build up to each trophy party the Club circulates a professionally written column to all badge holders to ensure all those attending are suitably up to date on the excitement and tension mounting between the competing racehorse owners for the featured trophy.

For younger followers of racing The Club has created a unique luxury board game which lets players compete as a Shanghai Race Club owner members in 1934 for the highly prized Shanghai Cup racing trophy.

The Club has over 3,000 badge holders around the world and partnerships with Hurun rich list, The Nanjing Racecourse and The Nine Dragon Hills Racecourse - both racecourses are within 1.5 hours train/car ride from Shanghai.

The Club facilitates introductions and discussions between Members, in particular members in Europe from the field of professional racing, and racehorse owners in Mainland China.

The Club also provides members with access to Paoma.com an online racehorse owners technology built by the Shanghai Race Club to make it easier for people based in Mainland China to try and buy racehorses based in Great Britain and Ireland stay up to date with the performance of their racehorses and watch them race.

Fabulous Royal Ascot shakes up standings for Cartier Racing Awards

Royal Ascot offers a fabulous week of the world's best Flat racing and the 2013 renewal, which took place from Tuesday, June 18 through to Saturday, June 22, provided some outstanding performances that will live long in the memory.

The victories recorded over the five days have had a significant impact on the leaderboard for the 2013 Cartier Racing Awards.

Cartier2013Sky Lantern, trained by Richard Hannon, was very impressive in Friday's Coronation Stakes, adding that Group One to her Classic victory in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas and now heads the standings for Cartier Horse Of The Year on 100 points.

The grey filly is closely pursued by Godolphin's Dawn Approach (96), who bounced back from his Investec Derby disappointment to land a thrilling St James's Palace Stakes on the opening day of Royal Ascot after beginning the year with a runaway triumph in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas.

Etihad Airways Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Just The Judge (84), third at Royal Ascot and second in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas, is next followed by Al Kazeem (80), who landed his second consecutive Group One when taking an exciting Prince Of Wales's Stakes on the Wednesday of Royal Ascot.

Sky Lantern and Just The Judge also lead the way in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly category, followed by Investec Oaks heroine Talent (48) and Silasol (44), successful in the Group One Pour Moi Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp.

Dawn Approach is way out in front in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt category, with his closest pursuers all on 56 points - Prix du Jockey Club scorer Intello, Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Magician and Investec Derby hero Ruler Of The World, who runs next in Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh.

Al Kazeem leads the Cartier Older Horse category ahead of Godolphin's Sajjhaa (75), a dual Group One winner at Meydan, Dubai. Maxios (64), trained in France by Jonathan Pease, is next, having captured the Group One Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp in May, followed by the Aidan O'Brien-trained St Nicholas Abbey (56), who recorded an unprecedented third victory in the Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom Downs on June 1.

The biggest cheer of the week at Royal Ascot was reserved for The Queen's Estimate, who captured the Gold Cup in game fashion to create history by becoming the first horse owned by the reigning monarch to lift the staying showpiece. The four-year-old filly heads the standings in the Cartier Stayer category on 56 points, ahead of Simenon (24) and Top Trip (20), second and third at Royal Ascot.

Royal Ascot is the venue for the first two Group One sprints in Britain and, not surprisingly, the winners feature prominently in the Cartier Sprinter category. Lethal Force (45) landed the six-furlong Diamond Jubilee Stakes on the final day, giving his jockey Adam Kirby a first Group One success, while Irish-trained Sole Power (45) took the King's Stand Stakes over a furlong shorter on the opening day. Society Rock, second to Lethal Force at Royal Ascot after defeating the same rival in the Group Two Duke Of York Stakes in May, is in third with 40 points.

Harry Herbert, Cartier's racing consultant, commented: "We were treated to five days of tremendous racing at Royal Ascot and Gold Cup day was particularly memorable for all the right reasons.

"The results at Royal Ascot often have a strong bearing on the Cartier Racing Awards, but there is plenty of time between now and November for horses to make an impact.

"We now look forward to this weekend's Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown Park and Newmarket's Piper-Heidsieck July Festival."

About the Cartier Racing Awards

The Cartier Racing Awards were established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing. They are determined by points earned by horses in Pattern races throughout 2013, combined at the end of season with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists and votes from readers of the Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph.

In addition to eight equine awards, the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit goes to the person or persons who, in the opinion of the special Cartier Jury, has/have done the most for European racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or within the past 12 months.

The awards will be presented during a glittering ceremony before an invited audience at London's Dorchester Hotel on Tuesday, November 12.
