Yesterday, Jockey Club
Racecourses, owners of Cheltenham Racecourse and 14 other courses, announced a
significant increase to prize money across the Group in 2013.
Today, Cheltenham releases
some detail on its own greatly enhanced prize money offering for next year.
Total prize money for 2013
at Cheltenham will be a record £6.12m, a near 12 per cent increase from 2012,
meaning that each race at the course will be worth an average of £57,000.
At The Festival, held in
2013 from Tuesday to Friday, March 12-15, prize money will be £3.82m, up by
£445,000 from 2012, with the average Festival race now worth an astonishing
£141,500.
Almost every race at The
Festival is increasing in value, with the major Championship events all
breaking new ground in prize money terms, as follows:

Total prize money on
Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup day, Friday, March 15, will now exceed £1m for the
first time.

Head of Racing and Clerk of the Course at Cheltenham, added: "I am
