Home Farm among 100 acceptors for Crabbie's Grand National

Home Farm'sparticipation in the £1-million Crabbie's Grand National hinges on his performance in the Carrickmines Handicap Chase at Leopardstown this coming Sunday, March 2.

Arthur Moore's charge is among 100 horses going forward for the Aintree showpiece, run on Saturday, April 5, following yesterday's scratchings deadline, details of which are revealed today.

He emerged as a contender for the Crabbie's Grand National following a third in last season's Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse and has shaped encouragingly in two starts this term.

The seven-year-old, who has only had six starts over fences, was beaten three and a half lengths by Rupert Lamb in a two-mile rated chase at Naas in November, before staying-on to take fifth in the valuable three-mile Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown's Christmas festival.

Moore, who saddled the 2008 runner-up King Johns Castle and whose father Dan sent out L'Escargot to win the Grand National in 1975, reported: "Home Farm will run at Leopardstown on Sunday. We will see how he gets on there before making a decision about the Crabbie's Grand National, but we are expecting a nice run.

"He has been fine since his run at Christmas. It was a good run but it was a tough ask under top-weight, so we were happy enough with him.

"I can't complain with the weight he has been given for Aintree, 10st 6lb is a nice racing weight but naturally his lack of experience is a concern."

Home Farm is a 33/1 shot for the Crabbie's Grand National with Betfred, Aintree's official betting partner. The market is headed by last year's third Teaforthree (12/1), who was just touched off in a Listed handicap chase at Ascot on February 15.

The 16 entries for the Carrickmines Handicap also feature fellow Crabbie's Grand National hopes Colbert Station (25/1 with Betfred, trained by Ted Walsh), who fell at The Chair last year, improving eight-year-old Double Seven (33/1, Martin Brassil) and Topham Chase third Last Time D'Albain (50/1, Liam Cusack).

Tidal Bay (16/1) continues to top the Crabbie's Grand National field on 11st 10lb and is one of seven remaining contenders for seven-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls. Other notables for the Ditcheat handler include Welsh National runner-up Hawkes Point (25/1), Argento Chase second Rocky Creek (25/1) and London National victor There's No Panic (40/1).

Ireland's champion trainer Willie Mullins, successful with Hedgehunter in 2005, has halved his initial entry of eight with Saturday's impressive Bobbyjo Chase winner On His Own (20/1)heading Boston Bob (40/1), Prince De Beauchene (33/1) and Vesper Bell (50/1).

Nicky Henderson also has four going forward led by 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Long Run (20/1) and decisive Hennessy Gold Cup winner Triolo D'Alene (20/1). The seven-year-old captured last season's Topham Chase over the Grand National fences and will step up his preparation for Aintree with a gallop before racing at Newbury on Saturday.

Further Crabbie's Grand National clues could be uncovered this weekend with six-day entries for the Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster and Kelso's Premier Chase featuring a number of leading Aintree contenders.

Monbeg Dude (20/1, Michael Scudamore), an impressive winner at Cheltenham in December, holds entries in both contests as does Wayward Prince (50/1, Hilary Parrott), a Grade One winner over hurdles at Aintree in 2009. Also engaged at Doncaster is last year's Scottish Grand National victor Godsmejudge (20/1, Alan King) and impressive Cheltenham handicap scorer Alvarado (33/1, Fergal O'Brien).
