Newmarket stages its final
raceday of the season this Saturday, November 3, with an exciting eight-race
card headlined by three Listed contests including the £33,000 Piper-Heidsieck
James Seymour Stakes (3.05pm) over 10 furlongs.
A total of eight runners
will line up headed by recent course scorer Mull Of Killough, who stayed
on strongly to capture the nine-furlong Group Three Darley Stakes by three
lengths on Dubai Future Champions Day, October 13.
Jane Chapple-Hyam's
six-year-old had previously finished second in the Betfred Cambridgeshire at
Newmarket on September 29 and will carry a 6lb penalty for his recent success.
Chapple-Hyam said:
"Everything is fine with Mull Of Killough. It looks like it will be on the
soft side after the rain we've had recently and that is a concern, but the
ground at Newmarket never gets too soft so he should be fine.
"We have got to give
at least 6lb to the opposition but the way he went away in the Darley Stakes
suggests he is capable of carrying the weight. He had been working well prior
to that and in his work at home he had come on for his run in the
Cambridgeshire.
"We have got George
Baker on which is good - bodyweight rather than deadweight!
"He doesn't need to
make the running like he did in the Darley Stakes and he is going a little bit
further on Saturday so I would be happy to take a lead off something.
"The trip isn't a
concern but you never know until you run them. He hit the line strong in the
Darley Stakes and he kept going for another furlong before he could be pulled
up.
"I think this going
to be his final run of the season. He is nominated for Hong Kong but you look
at the nominations for those races and they are very strong Group Ones, so I
think this will be it."
Notable contenders for the
James Seymour Stakes include Rainbow Peak, who will be having his first
run for Godolphin since winning a 12-furlong Italian Group One in October,
2010.
Godolphin is also
represented by Group Three scorer Prince Siegfried, while Roger Charlton
will saddle Primevere, who won the Listed Foundation Stakes at Goodwood
on her latest outing.
Godolphin is also strongly
represented in £33,000 Listed Betfred Ben Marshall Stakes (3.40pm) over a mile
with French Navy, Quick Wit and Swedish Sailor all
engaged. They will clash with John Gosden's Trade Commissioner and
Charlie Hills' Group Two Dubai Challenge Stakes runner-up Red Jazz.
The opening Listed race on
the card is the £23,000 EBF Piper-Heidsieck Montrose Fillies' Stakes (1.55pm,
eight runners) over a mile for two-year-olds when Charlie Hills will saddle Desert
Image, who was the impressive four-length winner of a seven-furlong maiden
at Newmarket on October 24.
The action at Newmarket
gets underway with division one (12.15pm, 11 runners) and division two
(12.45pm, 11 runners) of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies' Maiden over
seven furlongs.
Last year, the
corresponding maidens were won by subsequent Group One Nassau Stakes heroine
The Fugue and QIPCO 1000 Guineas runner-up Starscope. In 2008, the race was
captured by Sariska, who went on to complete the English and Irish Oaks
double the following season.
A small but select field
of juveniles go to post for the £12,000 Laundry Cottage Stud Farm Zetland
Conditions Stakes (1.20pm, three runners) over 10 furlongs with Godolphin's Cap
O'Rushes bidding to bounce back from a sixth-placed finish in the Group
Three Autumn Stakes on October 13.
The first of two handicaps
on the card is £13,000 Betfred "The Bonus King" Handicap (2,30pm, 10
runners) over a mile which features a number of progressive performers
including Michael Appleby's Betfred Cambridgeshire fourth Bancnuanaheireann.
Newmarket's 2012 season is
concluded with Jayne Reid Smiles On Memorial Handicap (4.10pm, 19 runners) over
seven furlongs.
