Triumphant Ajtebi Makes All To Claim Abu Dhabi Feature

Emirati Jockey Successful on Majed Al Jahouri-trained Areem
Areem made virtually every yard of the running under an inspired Ahmed Ajtebi to win the featured Sheikh Zayed  bin Sultan Al Nahyan Prestige Cup at Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Trained by Majed Al Jahouri, Areem is homebred by H E Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan who was present to see his horse record his first local victory.  Ajtebi said: “Basically everything went to plan; I was allowed a relatively easy lead and the horse just kept delivering. “It is a great result because we have beaten some really good horses.”

Delphine Dubois was in the saddle on AF Sanafdek who landed HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) Cup, the concluding 1,600m event. A delighted jockey said: “It is brilliant to be given this opportunity to ride in Abu Dhabi and obviously to win is a bonus.”

The only Thoroughbred race was a 1,600m handicap in which Maath Gool made his first turf start a winning one under Wayne Smith for his main employer Musabah Al Muhairi. Smith said: “He is a really nice horse and one we have always held high hopes for.
“He did it well tonight and could be a nice horse this season.”

Racing opened with a 1,400m maiden in which Shayel Aldhabi provided jockey Sam Hitchcott with a first local winner for trainer Ernst Oertel who said: “We probably thought we had a better chance with Lahaan but it is great to win the first race of the Abu Dhabi season.”

The trainer later completed a double when Omani apprentice Mu’nis Al Siyabi steered Richly Blessed to win HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak EARS Apprentice Jockey Cup. The trainer said: “This is a great result not only for us but Oman as well.”
