Green Grass Of Dubai Proves Strong Draw For Bob le Beau

Successful duel-code trainer, Jessica Harrington suspects a winter in Dubai may be just what the doctor ordered, not only for herself but also for her fast-ground-loving runner, Bob le Beau.

“I’m recovering from a terrible cold,” said Harrington, who trains in Ireland. “It’s great to get to a warmer climate for a little while. I’m also excited to get Bob le Beau on the turf track here. He loves fast ground and last year at home was a complete washout. I’ve been looking forward to having him out here after running in a bog all season.”

Harrington’s impressive CV bristles with major jumps racing success stories, including that of multiple Grade 1-winning stable star, Moscow Flyer and current Supreme Novice Hurdle favourite, Jezki.

On the flat Harrington has enjoyed Group 1 and Group 2 wins with Pathfork, as well as a Group 2 victory with Laughing Lashes and multiple Group 3 success with Jumbajukiba among many other victories.

The former eventer, who was twice placed at the internationally-renowned Badminton Horse Trials and was last summer involved as backroom staff with the Irish Olympic eventing team, has been targeting Bob le Beau at Dubai for a while.

Going by his 2011 form, the 100-rated Bob le Beau holds a genuine chance in the Dubai Duty Free Full of Surprises Handicap, where he takes on 15 including India’s multiple Classic-winning mare, In the Spotlight.
The six-year-old Bob le Beau was a 10-length second behind Dubai World Cup fourth and multiple Group 1 winner, So You Think and runner-up by three-and-a-half lengths to last season’s Al Fahidi Fort Winner, Viscount Nelson.

“If you look at his record from last year and his record from the season before that it’s like two different horses,” said Harrington, who also trains the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks fifth, Bible Belt, a full sister to Bob le Beau.

“Essentially you can draw a line through his 2012 form; we had a disastrous season in the wet and eventually we just rested him and planned to bring him out here for some faster ground.

“He’s been in Dubai since January 5 and he seems to be in good form. He travelled very well and he’s pretty bright in himself. Last season he just lost his sparkle a little bit but he seems to be going the right way now.”
