Emirates Racing Authority set tough stance on drug ban as Mohammed Ibrahim Abdelmajid's appeal fails and his punishment is increased

InDubai last Tuesday (14 January 2014), the ERA Appeal Board considered the appeal of Trainer Mr Mohd. Ibrahim Abdelmajid who was disqualified for three (3) months, effective immediately and fined AED 15,000 by the ERA Stewards in relation to a breach of ERA Rule of Racing 95A 1(b) for causing to be administered novacoc to JOURNALISTIC (USA) prior to Race 1 at Jebel Ali on 13 December 2013. The post-race urine sample taken from that horse, upon analysis, was found to contain the prohibited substances caffeine and theophylline.

The Appeal Board determined to vary the penalty to a twelve (12) months suspension and a fine of AED 30,000. Mr Mohd. Ibrahim Abdelmajid‘s suspension will now expire at midnight 6 January 2015.
