Newmarket
trainer chasing £100,000 Betfair Summer Double Bonus
Trainer George Margarson
is aiming Excellent Guest at the £100,000 Cash Out Multiples Only On
Betfair International Handicap, run over seven furlongs at Ascot on Saturday,
July 27, as the weights for the exciting and competitive race are revealed
today.
The five-year-old has
twice won over seven furlongs at the Berkshire venue, including when taking the
valuable Victoria Cup on May 11 this year, and last time out finished ninth of
28 in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot over a mile on June 19.
Excellent Guest has been
allotted nine stone for the Cash Out Multiples Only On Betfair International
Handicap and is a 16/1 chance with Betfair (Sportsbook).
Newmarket-based Margarson
revealed: "The Betfair race at Ascot is definitely a target for Excellent
Guest. He will be entered in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket - he was going to run
in both races last year but there was only a week's gap whereas this year there
is a fortnight in between.
"It looked like he
was in the right group when he ran in the Royal Hunt Cup last time but he
wasn't as he had no cover - Tom (Queally) said that wherever he went he never
got any. He was only beaten three and a half lengths in the end.
"Although he was
second in the Royal Hunt Cup last year, I am of the belief now that a mile just
stretches him. He is like his brother (Imperial Guest) in that he seems to be
getting faster as he gets older."
Margarson also has his eye
on the £100,000 bonus offered by Betfair for any horse who can win both the
Cash Out Multiples Only On Betfair International Handicap and the £100,000
Betfair Summer Double Second Leg Handicap which takes place over seven furlongs
at Goodwood on Saturday, August 24.
Margarson continued:
"We won the Goodwood race last year with Imperial Guest and it would be a
target for Excellent Guest this year. It's a big, big bonus and he proved when
he was fifth in the big mile handicap at Glorious Goodwood last year that he
can handle the track."
Currently heading the Cash
Out Multiples Only On Betfair International Handicap market at 8/1 with Betfair
are recent impressive Newcastle scorer Diescentric (9st 8lb - Julie
Camacho), despite being raised 10lb by the handicapper, and Queensbery Rules
(8st 9lb - William Haggas) who was a close third in the mile Britannia Handicap
at Royal Ascot.
Royal Hunt Cup winner Belgian
Bill (9st 3lb - George Baker) is a 12/1 hope, along with Irish raider Burn
The Boats (8st 12lb - Ger Lyons), successful over six furlongs at the Curragh
on Irish Derby Day and Dream Tune (8st 11lb - Clive Cox), runner-up over
the course and distance in the Buckingham Palace Handicap at Royal Ascot.
Last year's winner Field
Of Dream (9st - Jamie Osborne) is a 20/1 chance with Betfair and showed he
was returning to his best when sixth in the Royal Hunt Cup. He is rated 98 as
against 99 when successful in 2012.
The 16/1 chances Hawkeyethenoo
(9st 10lb - Jim Goldie) and Arnold Lane (9st 10lb - Mick Channon) head
the weights for the Cash Out Multiples Only On Betfair International Handicap
and are rated 108.
Ireland's champion trainer
Aidan O'Brien has made a rare handicap entry with Group One third Parliament
Square (8st 8lb), owned by Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Sue Magnier,
who is priced at 33/1 by Betfair. There is also a French entry - the Qatar
Racing-owned Pearl Flute (9st 8lb - Francis Graffard) who finished fifth
to Havana Gold in the Group One Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly on June 30.
Betfair Spokesman Barry
Orr commented today: "At the moment, it is fiercely competitive with both
Diescentric and Queensberry Rules having done little wrong. Each advertised
their claims with recent performances while Belgian Bill, who traded at the
Exchange high of 1000 in-running at Royal Ascot is also fancied to go well.
"There is plenty of
value to be found in the market and it would be no surprise to see money come
for some at bigger prices."
