Sprinters trained in six
different countries are among the 18 declared runners in tomorrow's feature
£500,000 Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes, part of both the Global Sprint
Challenge and British Champions Series.
Last year's race was won
by the brilliant Australian mare Black Caviar and Sea Siren, based at
Randwick with John O'Shea, will bid to emulate her compatriot. The
five-year-old, a daughter of top Australian sire Fastnet Rock, was bought by
the Coolmore partners in May and will be covered by Galileo. She is a
three-time Group One winner over six and seven furlongs and most recently
finished second at Doomben on May 25.
There was an
American-trained winner on Thursday when No Nay Never captured the Norfolk
Stakes and Havelock will bid to take another prize across the Atlantic.
The six-year-old, trained by Darrin Miller, has scored on synthetics and turf
at distances between five and eight furlongs.
Krypton Factor, saddled by Bahrain-based
Fawzi Nass, finished a close sixth to Black Caviar last year and he is having
his first start since finishing third in the Group One Dubai Golden Shaheen on
March 30.
French handler Alex
Pantall sent out Restiadargent to finish third in last year's race and he is
represented by Gammarth, a Listed winner in April.
There are five Irish-based
contenders including the last season's Prix de la Foret winner Gordon Lord
Byron, trained by Tom Hogan for a partnership including top Indian breeder
Cyrus Poonawalla. Last year's Wokingham Handicap winner Dandy Boy
represents handler David Marnane. Aidan O'Brien saddled Starspangledbanner to
win in 2010 and he is represented by Reply while David Nagle's stable
star Maarek returns to Ascot having won last season's Group Two QIPCO
British Champions' Sprint in October. Trainer Edward Lynam won Tuesday's King's
Stand Stakes with Sole Power and he will bid for another big success with Slade
Power.
Society Rock, successful in 2011, bids
to become the first dual winner since Right Boy in 1958 and 1959. He won the
Group Two Duke Of York Stakes at York last month on his seasonal return and Lethal
Force, who was beaten a head that day, reopposes.
There are two
three-year-olds in the line up - last season's Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Rosdhu
Queen and Zanetto, a Listed winner at Newbury last month for trainer
Andrew Balding.
Roger Charlton, successful
in the 2001 renewal with Harmonic Way, runs the filly Mince who won the
Group Three John Guest Bengough Stakes at Ascot on October 6. The runner-up in
that contest, Godolphin's Soul, a Group Two winner in Australia, lines
up again.
