Remote brought up a Royal
Ascot double for owner Khalid Abdullah when landing the Tercentenary Stakes for
trainer John Gosden.
Earlier on the card his
colours had been carried to victory by Riposte in the Ribblesdale Stakes, a win
that had special meaning for Gosden who was a close friend of filly's late
former trainer, Sir Henry Cecil.
Gosden said: "Henry
was a great friend who I spent time with on the Heath every morning, so I miss
him terribly. For Jane and the whole team there to win the Ribblesdale, one of
Henry's favourite races, was wonderful. And that was before the ultimate, Her
Majesty's win in the Gold Cup - to have won in such wonderful style for a top
jockey and trainer,it was historical in our world of racing."
Of Remote's win he said:
"We had a great Royal meeting last year, but this is our first winner this
time. We've been hitting goal posts and cross bars this time. But to have a
lovely winner like this is wonderful.
"I was concerned
about running him on the ground and so I said to Prince Khalid 'Should we
run?'. He said: 'John, I'm here, we run'.
"He's won a Group
Three so now we have to look at a Group Two. He's a classy horse and while they
went hard he picked them up well. It looked like a really top race."
Buick said: He has only
run three times and he has come to a meeting where it is hardest to win a race,
whatever race you are in. He has done it really well.
"Mile and a quarter
races here are tricky races and I didn't really want to force him into doing
something he couldn't do early on. I found myself behind a horse who couldn't
take me anywhere but I couldn't really do anything else.
"I was always
confident that he would pick up but he won very well from where he came from.
"That was a pretty
good performance. He has taken the step to Group level and made it look very
comfortable. He's a good horse and he will progress even further."
