The crowd
for day three at Royal Ascot came to 61,954, up on the 60,294 who attended the
same day last year.
Charles
Barnett, Ascot's Chief Executive, commented: "It was a tremendous crowd on
what proved to a thrilling and emotionally-charged day.
"The
stories kept coming throughout the afternoon. We started with a third Royal
Ascot victory for American trainer Wesley Ward who saddled No Nay Never to a
devastating win in the Norfolk Stakes, creating a new track record in the
process.
"This
was followed by an emotional success for Lady Jane Cecil as Riposte took the
Ribblesdale Stakes, ensuring Sir Henry Cecil's legacy is kept alive at Royal
Ascot. Fittingly, Riposte carried the colours of Prince Khalid Abdullah, a
stalwart supporter of Warren Place,
"The
afternoon then culminated with Estimate's historic success for The Queen in the
Gold Cup, resulting in some of the greatest scenes ever seen in the long
history of the Royal Meeting."
