Norwegian handler Rune
Haugen is hoping that Entangle can enjoy a fairytale end to her career
with victory in the mile £33,000 Listed Betfred Ben Marshall Stakes (3.40pm),
one of the highlights of the second day of Newmarket's final meeting of the
season this Saturday, November 3.
The six-year-old Pivotal
mare was purchased for just 3,200gns at the Tattersalls in December, 2008, and
has gone on to register 14 Pattern victories in Scandinavia, including a game
success in a Group Three contest over nine furlongs at Ovrevoll, Norway,
in August, 2011.
She heads to Newmarket in
superb form, having taken a nine-furlong Listed contest at Ovrevoll by six and
a half lengths on September 23 and posted a three and a half-length verdict in
a mile Listed race at Taby, Sweden, on October 14.
Haugen revealed:
"Entangle is definitely heading over to Newmarket and this will be her
final race before she heads to the sales. She will be making her only start for
me because she was previously trained by my good friend Arnfinn Lund, who is
retiring.
"She has been a
superstar over here for us and we hope that she can be lucky on her final
racecourse appearance. She is very, very good over a mile and has won all the
big races in Scandinavia. I don't think that she will be too far away."
Entangle's rivals in the
Betfred Ben Marshall Stakes could include Red Jazz, who captured the
Group Two Dubai Challenge Stakes in 2010 and was beaten a neck in the same race
this year. A total of 17 entries also includes Grade One Woodbine Mile fifth Dance
And Dance and Bancnuanaheireann, who was fourth in the Betfred
Cambridgeshire.
Haugen may also be
represented on Saturday's card by Avon Pearl, who is among 30 contenders
for the £13,000 Betfred "The Bonus King" Handicap (2.30pm) over a
mile.
A Chepstow maiden winner
for Henry Candy in 2011, the three-year-old son of Avonbridge headed to Norway
at the end of last season and has recorded four victories for Haugen, including
when taking a six-furlong contest on his most recent start on October 17.
Haugen added: "Avon
Pearl worked this morning and I was happy with him. I will have a look at the
race before deciding whether to bring him to Newmarket but he is in good form
at the moment.
"He has won a couple
of big races at Ovrevoll this year and has improved around 10kg (22lb)
this season. He won over six furlongs last time but he has good form over a
mile and the step back up would be fine for him."
Mull Of Killough, successful in the Group
Three Darley Stakes on Dubai Future Champions Day, is one of 14 entries for the
£33,000 Listed Piper-Heidsieck James Seymour Stakes (3.05pm). Rainbow Peak
may make his first start in the 10-furlong contest since winning the Group One
Gran Premio Del Jockey Club in October, 2010.
Further Listed action is
provided by the £23,000 EBF Piper-Heidsieck Montrose Fillies' Stakes (1.55pm),
which has attracted 11 entries including Group Three Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes
fourth Power Of Light, whose trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni won this race
two years ago with subsequent QIPCO 1000 Guineas heroine Blue Bunting.
