THE
COMPANY ALSO BACKS BIG HANDICAP HURDLE ON OPEN SUNDAY
Cheltenham Racecourse
announced today that the Racing Post has extended its sponsorship
portfolio at Cheltenham by supporting the £25,000 Racing Post Arkle Trophy
Trial Novices' Chase and the £100,000 Racing Post Hurdle (Handicap) at The Open
on Sunday, November 18, 2012.
The daily racing news and
betting publisher has committed to supporting the Racing Post Arkle Trophy
Trial Novices' Chase race and the Grade One Racing Post Arkle Chase, the most
important two-mile novice chase of the season, for five years until the
Festival of 2017. The Racing Post Arkle Trophy Trial Novices' Chase is the
first step on the two-mile novice chase 'Road to Cheltenham', which leads to
the Festival. It has been won in the past by some of the sport's biggest names.
Best Mate, Azertyuiop, Fair Along, Tataniano and Al Ferof have all been
successful in the contest in the last few years before going on to win even
bigger races in their careers.
In line with its support
of the two mile novices' chase 'Road to Cheltenham', Racing Post continues to
sponsor the Racing Post Novices' Chase at Leopardstown on Boxing Day.
In a further one-year
deal, Racing Post is also backing the Racing Post Hurdle (Handicap), the race
previously known as the Greatwood Hurdle.
Louise Agran, Marketing
Director of the Racing Post, said: "Racing Post is thrilled to continue
the sponsorship of the prestigious Racing Post Arkle Chase for a further five
years until 2017 and to add a new dimension by building our support of the
trial races leading up to the Festival.
"We were delighted
with last year and hope that this extended sponsorship demonstrates our
commitment to Jump racing in the long term."
Cheltenham's director of
sponsorship Peter McNeile added: "We are very pleased to bring Racing Post
on board in support of the Road to Cheltenham.
"The Racing Post
Arkle Trophy Trial in November and the Racing Post Novices' Chase at
Leopardstown are key staging posts for The Festival in their respective
countries and continue the theme of building around the season's championship
events.
"Racing Post's
additional support of the ultra-competitive hurdle race, which is the feature
of Open Sunday, cements an excellent relationship with the sport's leading
publisher."
