Botti considering Ladbrokes St Leger for outsider Renew @DoncasterRaces

Ladbrokes St Leger 2012The Marco Botti-trained Renew could step into Pattern company for the first in the Group One Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on the final day of the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival, Saturday, September 14.

The son of Dansili was bought out of Aidan O'Brien's yard for 48,000 guineas at Tattersalls in October after two runs on heavy ground, but has done nothing but improve for his new handler, winning two of his four starts.

He scored by four and a half lengths when going clear on his British debut over 12 furlongs at Thirsk on May 4, and then chased home the highly-regarded Brass Ring in a Newmarket handicap at the same distance two weeks later.

He showed his liking for Doncaster with a game victory over 12 furlongs in a first-time hood in the bonus.co.uk Casino Bonus Handicap on July 11, before stepping up again in a valuable handicap at Haydock on August 10, going down by a short-head to Glenard.

Botti, who is yet to have a runner in the world's oldest Classic, revealed: "Renew is going to run in the Ladbrokes Mobile Handicap at Ascot on Saturday and then, depending on how he runs there, we will think about the Ladbrokes St Leger.

"He is in very good form and we could not be happier with him. He likes fast ground and he has never run on soft for us so that is something we will keep in mind.

"He wears a hood because he had a small issue in the stalls when he ran at Newmarket. He reared up and was left a bit at the start so we put the hood on and that seems to have calmed him down.

"I think he will be better than a handicapper and is going to be a really nice four-year-old. He has a lovely pedigree and is improving all the time.

"The plan is to see how he goes on Saturday and then we will make a decision about the St Leger."

Renew is a 40/1 chance with Ladbrokes for the St Leger, run over a mile, six furlongs and 132 yards and worth a record £600,000.

A total of 19 three-year-olds are still engaged for the Doncaster Classic headed by Excess Knowledge (7/2 favourite with Ladbrokes), who, along with stablemate Feel Like Dancing (16/1), is bidding to give trainer John Gosden a fifth Ladbrokes St Leger.

Aidan O'Brien's customary strong hand includes Queen's Vase hero Leading Light (4/1) and Neptune Investment Management Great Voltigeur Stakes runner-up Foundry (6/1), while the Irish challenge is also likely to consist of Irish Derby runner-up Galileo Rock (5/1).

Godolphin, the most successful current owner in the final British Classic with six wins, has three possibles headlined by Investec Derby second Libertarian (8/1), while Ralph Beckett plans to run Investec Oaks heroine Talent (14/1).

There is one final chance for horses to be added to the field for the 2013 Ladbrokes St Leger on Monday, September 9, when there is a £45,000 supplementary entry stage.

Latest betting with Ladbrokes: 7/2 Excess Knowledge; 4/1 Leading Light; 5/1 Galileo Rock; 6/1 Foundry; 8/1 Libertarian; 14/1 Talent, Eye Of The Storm; 16/1 Feel Like Dancing, Dabadiyan, Secret Number; 20/1 Cap O'Rushes, Great Hall; 33/1 Dashing Star, Havana Beat; 40/1 Renew, Willie The Whipper; 50/1 London Bridge, Plinth, Ralston Road
