DAVID WACHMAN WANTS BETTER GROUND FOR GALILEO ROCK

Galileo Rock, trained in Ireland by David Wachman, is one of 11 declared runners for the final British Classic, the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday, but will not run unless the going becomes faster.
Ladbrokes St Leger 2012
Today's going description of Good to Soft is too soft for the three-year-old son of Galileo, who has been placed in two Classics already this year.

Wachman said today: "Galileo Rock will be declared for the GAIN Irish St Leger, which is run on Sunday at the Curragh, and a decision on which race to go for will be delayed until tomorrow evening.

"I want very much to run Galileo Rock in the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster because of its prestige, prize money and the fact it is confined to three-year-olds."

A VISION FOR BRITTAIN

Clive Brittain has lofty plans for Aqlaam Vision, off the mark by a length and a quarter in the opening Carrie Red Fillies' Nursery.

The two-year-old daughter of Aqlaam now has a step up to Group One company in  next month's Fillies' Mile at Newmarket on her agenda.

It took Aqlaam Vision five attempts to reach the winner's circle, but her veteran trainer has been content to wait.

"You can't force them," he said, "and she has only just started to come to herself. And I think she'll keep improving. With me they're not galloped to fitness, they're walked and swum to fitness, so when they get to the races they have the chance to improve."

Aqlaam Vision, in the colours of Brittain's longstanding patron Saeed Manana, dropped back today to six and a half furlongs from a mile, over which she finished second at Salisbury last month.

"I wasn't worried about the rain," said Brittain, "in fact I think it helped over this trip as it helped her stamina kick in. Perhaps it was a bit sharp, but she's got class."

Aqlaam Vision is just one of the above-average juvenile fillies under Brittain's care this season, a squad headed by Rizeena, winner of the Moyglare Stud Stakes.

"She'll go for the Cheveley Park or the Boussac," said Brittain. "She'll tell me where to go. She's as good as any I've trained, and I've had some good ones. She's put on 20kgs since she started training, and its all muscle and development."

Aqlaam Vision came home strongly on the stands' rail to beat trailblazing Ticking Katie a length and a quarter. "She has a great attitude," said rider William Buick. "There was no particular plan to come up the rail, it was just the way it panned out.

"That was my first ride for Clive and it's nice to ride a winner for him.

"The ground is hard work but she went through it very well. She is very honest and I had a good clear run up the stands' side. She is tough and genuine and has run well a few times now and deserves to get a one by her name.

"I don't want to take anything away from her, but she had a rail to run against which always helps. She was off the bridle for a long way but she came good at half-way."
