CROWD UP AT DONCASTER RACECOURSE ON DFS LADIES' DAY

The attendance on the second day of the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival at Doncaster, DFS Ladies' Day, Thursday, September 12, showed an increase over last year.

Despite a poor morning weather-wise, nearly 14,000 people came to Doncaster Racecourse today, as against 13,700 in 2012.

Ladbrokes St Leger 2012Mark Spincer, Managing Director of Doncaster Racecourse, said: "We are pleased to have attracted such a good crowd for DFS Ladies' Day and look forward to the final two days of the Ladbrokes St Leger Festival.

"We wish Hayley Turner all the best following her fall in today's feature race, the DFS
Park Hill Stakes, and hope she makes a speedy recovery."

GOING REMAINS THE SAME

The going at Doncaster remains Good to Soft after the second day of the Ladbrokes St Leger meeting though there is rain forecast for this evening.

Roderick Duncan, Clerk of the Course, said: "There is a 90% chance that we'll get between 3mm and 7mm of rain this evening and we'll look again at 6am tomorrow morning to see if it has eased the ground at all.

"There is an outside chance of some more drizzle tomorrow but there's not a great deal forecast and the outlook for Saturday is much better as it's due to stay dry with bright sunshine all day."

Race 7 - DFS Handicap - winner quotes

BRULEE BACK TO HIS SWEET BEST

Clon Brulee may have earned a tilt at the Cambridgeshire after his battling victory in the closing DFS Handicap. The David Barron-trained four-year-old, a 7/1 shot, saw off Tha'ir (13/2) after a sustained duel for more than a furlong, with 7/2 favourite Conduct a closing third.

The win gave Barron and rider Graham Gibbons a quick-fire 95/1 double after Pearl Ice's victory in the previous race. "I wish I could ride 10 of him every day," said Gibbons of Clon Brulee. "He's an absolute saint - I'd put my son or daughter on him - and he puts 110 per cent into his job every time."

Clon Brulee, bred by his owner Colette Twomey, launched his third season with two victories from as many runs and with ease in the ground came back to his progressive spring form. "When he ran at York in July the ground was plenty quick enough," said Barron, "and last time he ran badly at Goodwood for the second time, so we'll give there a miss with him in future.

"After that we just left him at home until the right race on the right ground came along. He's in the Cambridgeshire, which is a possibility, and also in the big handicap at Newbury next weekend. We'll see how he is, but he's had a light season; we've left him alone purposely."

Clon Brulee has had a light career altogether, with three runs at two and four last year. "He's had a couple of blips," added Barron, "but there are not many horses who go through life without. But his ability has always been there."

BANS FOR FENTIMAN AND FORTUNE

Duran Fentiman was found guilty of using his whip above the permitted level after finishing second on Azagal in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance £300,000 2-y-o race. The stewards suspended him for two days, Thursday and Sunday, September 26 & 29.

Jimmy Fortune was also found to have used his whip above the permitted level when third on Mawfoor in the same race. Fortune's ban is also Thursday and Sunday, September 26 & 29.
