Certify heads a field of seven
two-year-olds in the £163,500 Group One Shadwell Fillies' Mile (2.55pm),
highlight of the second day of the Cambridgeshire Festival, Shadwell Day, at
Newmarket, Friday, September 28.
The unbeaten daughter of
Elusive Quality, trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni and owned by Godolphin, is
chasing her first Group One victory after wins in the Group Three
german-thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket in August and the
Group Two May Hill Stakes at Doncaster on September 14.
Godolphin has won the last
two runnings of the Shadwell Fillies' Mile with Lyric Of Light (2011) and White
Moonstone (2010).
Certify faces stiff
competition from Mick Channon's Ollie Olga, who took her unbeaten record
to three with a comfortable victory over subsequent Group One winner Sky
Lantern in the Group Three Prestige Stakes at Goodwood on August 25.
ROZ THRIVING AHEAD OF NEWMARKET ASSIGNMENT
Lambourn handler Harry
Dunlop is hoping Roz can continue her progression after a promising
start to her career. The daughter of Teofilo got off the mark at the second
attempt in a maiden at Kempton before a comfortable front-running success in
the Listed Star Stakes over seven furlongs at Sandown on July 26.
Dunlop said: "It has
been the plan to run Roz in the Shadwell Fillies' Mile ever since she missed
the May Hill Stakes because of the softish ground.
"I have been very
happy with her progress and it was very pleasing to see Purr Along finish
second to Certify at Doncaster because that obviously boosts our form after we
beat Purr Along at Sandown. Understandably it is going to be a tough race, but
I am very pleased with Roz.
"She has improved for
the time she has had off the track and she will probably come into her own next
year, so that break after Sandown has done her the world of good.
"I think the step up
in trip will suit as she won over a stiff seven at Sandown and naturally you
would expect the Newmarket mile to be fine for her.
"I think she is
versatile in regards to tactics and, although we made all the running at
Sandown, I wouldn't be frightened to drop her in. We drop her in at home in her
work and in her maiden she was tucked in, so we will see how it goes."
The field also includes
impressive July Course maiden scorer Winsili, who will be bidding to
give her trainer John Gosden his fifth win in the mile contest, while Mark
Johnston saddles Deauville Listed scorer Discernable.
The line up is completed
by Prestige Stakes third Amazonas, trained by Ed Dunlop, and Clive
Brittain's Kempton winner Masarah.
A high-class card at
Newmarket also features the £100,000 Group Two Nayef Joel Stakes (2.20pm) which
is part of the QIPCO British Champion Series. The mile contest has attracted a
top-quality field of 11 headed by Group One St James's Palace Stakes hero
Most Improved and Group One Queen Anne Stakes third Side Glance.
Racing starts with the
£40,000 Group Three Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes (1.15pm, 9 runners) which also
showcases some high-class juveniles including May Hill Stakes third Light Up
My Life, trained by Richard Hannon, and Godolphin's seven-length maiden
winner Power Of Light.
The eight races will also
see the return of 2010 Ladbrokes St Leger victor Arctic Cosmos, who has
been off the track since May, in the £33,000 Listed Aqlaam Godolphin
Stakes (4.00pm, 7 runners) over a mile and a half, while Roger Charlton's Thistle
Bird will be chasing her fourth Listed victory in the £33,000 Listed
Mawatheeq Rosemary Stakes (1.45pm, 12 runners).
The three-day
Cambridgeshire Festival at Newmarket concludes on Saturday with Betfred
Cambridgeshire Day.
