Trainer Francois Doumen
is hoping that Siyouma can
make a winning return to Newmarket in the £160,000 Group One Kingdom Of Bahrain
Sun Chariot Stakes, highlight of the third and final day of the Cambridgeshire
Festival on Saturday, September 29.
A total of 23 fillies
and mares remain in the prestigious mile contest following the latest
scratchings deadline, details of which are revealed today.
Lightly-raced
four-year-old Siyouma ran on to finish a close third in the mile Group One
Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes on the July Course at Newmarket on July 13 and
finished a never-nearer fifth on her latest start in the Group One Darley Prix
Jean Romanet over 10 furlongs at Deauville on August 19.
Doumen, based in
Normandy, France, said: "We are very much looking at the Kingdom Of
Bahrain Stakes for Siyouma - the race is the target for her.
"She has been in
good form but we realised again at Deauville that the 2,000 metres (10
furlongs) was slightly too long for her. We remembered how well she ran in the
Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes over a mile so we are going to try our luck
again at Newmarket.
"The pace of
British racing obviously suits her better than French racing. She is versatile
in regards to ground - I have never seen it bother her. But I think, with the
pedigree she has, a bit of cut wouldn't be a problem - she is a huge girl.
"She is one of the
best girls on the market at the moment and she deserves to win a Group One. She
has never finished further than two lengths behind the very best so I think she
is top class.
"She only started
to race at four because she went back to the farm in June last year and we had
to start from scratch this year. When we bought her she didn't look very good.
She looked rough and I wasn't sure what to expect from her.
"She is only
starting to reach her best now and I think she could be even better next
year."
Siyouma could renew her
rivalry with Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes runner-up Elusive Kate, who
posted a comfortable success for John Gosden in the Group One Prix Rothschild
at Deauville on July 29 prior to taking third against the colts in the Group
One Prix Jacques Le Marois at the same course two weeks later.
Group One Poule d'Essai
des Pouliches heroine Beauty
Parlour could make her debut for Sir Henry Cecil, who may also
be represented by recent Group One Matron Stakes scorer Chachamaidee. Other
notable acceptors include recent Group Two Blandford Stakes winner Up, from the stable
of Aidan O'Brien, plus full sisters Emulous
and Caponata,
who are both trained by Dermot Weld.
The Cambridgeshire
Festival also hosts a pair of juvenile Group One contests for fillies and 24
entries go forward for the £150,000 Shadwell Fillies' Mile on Friday, September
28, including Certify.
The Godolphin filly is the current ante-post favourite for next year's QIPCO
1000 Guineas following a pair of impressive victories on the July Course,
including when taking the Group Three German-thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera
Stakes on August 11.
Group Two Irish
Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes second Maureen also
sits near the head of the betting for the QIPCO 1000 Guineas and the Richard
Hannon-trained filly is among 25 contenders remaining in the six-furlong
£150,000 Group One Jaguar Cars Cheveley Park Stakes on Saturday, September
29.
