Trainer Richard Hannon and
his stable jockey Richard Hughes are always hot property at Glorious Goodwood.
Hughes has been leading
jockey at Glorious Goodwood for each of the last three years and is virtually
assured glory for a fourth consecutive year as he has already partnered six
winners this week. Ryan Moore, his closest pursuer, has three winners on the board.
Hannon has been leading
trainer at Glorious Goodwood on four occasions, most recently in 2011, and has
recorded seven wins already this year making a fifth title almost guaranteed as
no other trainer has enjoyed more than two successes.
This year, Hannon and
Hughes combined to take the opening race of the meeting with Viewpoint on
Tuesday. Their highlights of the week included a spectacular treble on Wednesday,
spearheaded by Toronado's victory in the Group One QIPCO Sussex Stakes. On
Friday, they were responsible for Betfred Mile hero Wentworth.
Hughes and Hannon enjoyed
their best ever Glorious Goodwood in 2010, when they achieved nine winners each.
This was a record total for a trainer at Glorious Goodwood, while Hughes' haul
of winners had only been bettered once in history - Sir Gordon Richards rode 11
winners at the then four-day Glorious Goodwood in 1949.
The trainer and jockey
could both break their haul of nine winners this year, with Hughes having a
full book of seven rides today and Hannon set to saddle a dozen runners.
Perhaps the duo's biggest chance of success is the triple Group One scorer Sky
Lantern in the Group One Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes at 3.15pm.
Hannon has trained 251
winners in total at Goodwood, more than any other trainer ever, 71 of which
have come at Glorious Goodwood.
