Adam Waterworth, Goodwood
Racecourse's Managing Director, was thrilled with how Glorious Goodwood's top
race, the QIPCO Sussex Stakes, panned out.
Marketed as the second
"Duel on the Downs" following the clash between the mighty Frankel
and Canford Cliffs in 2011, the race lived up to its billing.
Dawn Approach, who had
previously beaten Toronado twice, succumbed by half a length to his rival.
Waterworth commented:
"What a great race. It was just what we wanted.
"It was an absolutely
fantastic race and could not have been better - a real Duel on the Downs."
The Goodwood crowd
appreciated jockey Richard Hughes' late swoop on Toronado and cheered him
especially when the horse returned to the winner's enclosure.
