Even one
of the world's most attractive racecourses can be given a bit of beauty
treatment before a spectacular finale, and that is the plan for Glorious
Goodwood tonight.
On the
eve of tomorrow's fifth and final day and some cracking racing, clerk of the
course Seamus Buckley said: "We're delighted with the way things went
today and the ground rode absolutely perfectly. The jockeys were delighted with
the condition of the course.
"We
had some proper, fast, Flat-racing ground, as borne out by the times which were
pretty quick, but the horses were letting themselves gallop and were really
stretching out on going that had a bit of moisture in it. It was a pleasure to
watch.
"On
the outer loops there were some good-to-firm places and it is only fair to
inform people of that, so we left the going description unchanged during the
day.
"The
plan for tonight is to give the straight a cut and a bit of a tidy-up for
tomorrow, and the rails on the top bend will be taken down over an area of
about two furlongs. The grass will be cut there and will provide a lovely strip
of fresh ground for the fillies and mares in the Markel Insurance Nassau
Stakes. They will be able to get their toes in safely and it should be quite a
race.
