BEAR CHEEK OF IT! AUSSIES ON A ROLL @Goodwood_Races

Not content with putting England's cricketers under severe pressure in The Ashes Test Match, Australians are also grabbing races at Glorious Goodwood.

Jeremy Gask, who came to Britain with his family in 2007 and took on the role of trainer at the Horses First yard established by Eamonn Wilmott and Tony Bloom in Wiltshire, saddled his first winner on the Downs of Sussex when Flying Bear won the Golf at Goodwood Nursery.

The two-year-old colt, who was getting off the mark after three placed runs, runs for a partnership involving a couple of Coral bookmaker employees and the Penang Turf Club.

Gask, who booked Andrea Atzeni for the ride, said of his 25/1 winner: "With a couple of furlongs to run I thought 'he's going to run a nice little race here', but I didn't expect him to hit the line as well as he did. Andrea rode him beautifully and got some cover, which we were after because he ran with the choke out last time [at Ffos Las, when fourth].

"The horse is still very green and when he was disputing the lead he was running around a bit, but that's just inexperience. To win like that on a track like this is excellent.

"His form was hard to get a gauge on, because he ran one good race and one bad one, but we were hopeful and he's a lovely honest little horse. We haven't set any targets for him and were just interested to see how the step up to six furlongs would suit.

"It's been a good day for the Aussies. I've not had many runners here at Goodwood, but it's a nice way to have a winner."
