Magic
City brought up a 49.6/1 Glorious Goodwood second day treble for the Richards
Hannon and Hughes in the finale, the Harwoods Racing Club Handicap, and
provided a timely boost for one of his joint-owners Sir Alex Ferguson,
currently in hospital recovering from hip surgery.
The
four-year-old, the 5/1 favourite, took the seven-furlong contest by a length
from 12/1 shot Alejandro. "We always thought he was a decent horse,"
said Hannon, "but he lost his way a bit last year. He's owned by people
who were prepared to be patient with him, though, and that patience is being
rewarded now he's starting to come good again."
Magic
City, by Elusive City, has now won three of his five handicap starts this year.
"I think the handicapper might have something to say now," added
Hannon, "so we'll look for a conditions race for him."
The other
winners for Hannon and Hughes today were Toronado (11/4) and Toormore (5/4f).
Magic
City gave Hannon his 249th Goodwood winner.
