Retirement Plan, easy
winner of the fourth day finale, the mile and three furlong Betfred Mobile
Lotto Handicap, is to test his Ladbrokes St Leger credentials over the
Classic's distance of a mile and three quarters at York later this month. The
lightly-raced son of Monsun was introduced into the betting for the Doncaster
showpiece at 14/1 by the sponsors.
"He was staying on so
well today," said trainer Lady Cecil, "and if he comes out of this
fine then we'll take the next step up in the Melrose Stakes."
The Khalid Abdullah
home-bred, the first foal of Group One winner Passage Of Time, has raced only
three times, winning a 12-furlong maiden at Doncaster in June before today.
"He's been a bit of a slow learner and is a bit of a character,"
added Lady Cecil, "but that win did him the world of good. He's growing up
all the time now and is coming on in leaps and bounds."
Retirement Plan gave Tom
Queally his second winner of the week, after Wild Coco for the Cecil stable
yesterday. "Because he was dropping back a furlong today, I wanted to keep
him up there and get his stride flowing as early as possible," he said.
"He's got the pedigree and the looks to be a really nice horse. The next
step will be the natural progression and he'll keep on getting better."
